I. Application for entry visa
For visa applications, each participant should go to the Chinese Embassy in their own country, taking with them their passport and invitation letter for study in
II. Visa extension
If the study period exceeds the valid period of the visa, please apply for a visa extension 10 days in advance. Those who stay after the expiry date will be fined or punished. Therefore, please check often to be sure that your visa is within the valid period.
Generally speaking, F visa holders can apply for 3 months extension each time, the longest period of extension being 1 year. Those participants with an L visa can only apply for a 1 month’s extension each time and no more than 3 times.
1. Extension of F visa
(1) Ask for an “application form for visa and residence permit” from the Service Department
of the training center;
(2) Fill in the “application form for visa and residence permit” carefully, with signature;
(3) Include a recent 2-in. bareheaded, full-face photo;
(4) Wait for examination and approval from the International Cooperation Section of
China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences;
(5) Take the precisely filled “application form for visa and residence permit”, passport
and management fee to apply for a visa extension, to Exit and Entry Administration,
Public Security Bureau in Beijing.
2. Extension of L visa
A. Extension of L visa for travelers
When applying for an extension of L visa, travelers are required to provide the following certificates and evidential materials:
(1) Valid passport and L visa;
(2) Certificate of residence permit issued by local police station;
(3) Application form of foreigners’ visa and residence permit with a recent 2-in
bareheaded full-face photo;
(4) Official letter from the host organization;
(5) If not related to a host organization, economic evidential materials are required to
guarantee living expenses in Beijing (cash, travelers’ cheques, remittance bill, cash
card, etc. to the value of U.S $100. per day)
B. Foreigners coming to China to visit relatives
People visiting their parents, parents of their spouse, (maternal) grandparents, brothers (sisters), uncles, and aunts, etc. should provide the following documents and evidential materials:
(1) Valid passport and L visa;
(2) Residence permit issued by local police station;
(3) Application form for foreigners’ visa and residence permit with a recent 2-in.
bareheaded full-face photo;
(4) When visiting inland residents, please provide a certificate of local permanent household
register or relevant residence permit and I.D. cards of the relatives being visited. When
visiting your spouse, please provide your marriage certificate;
(5) When visiting overseas Chinese, please provide the Chinese passports and foreign
residence permits of the relatives being visited;
(6) When visiting Hong Kong and Macao residents, please provide their to and fro inland
passes, or cards for home return for Hong Kong and Macao compatriots, and permanent
residence permit over 6 months of the relatives being visited;
(7) When visiting Tai Wan residents, please provide to and fro mainland pass for the Tai Wan
residents, or travel permits of the People’s Republic of China and permanent residence
permits over 6 months of the relatives being visited;
(8) When visiting foreign residents, please provide their residence permits or "foreigners"
permanent residence permit ”
(9) When visiting Chinese citizens (Hong Kong, Macao and Tai Wan residents) or foreigners
in China with “foreigners’ permanent residence permit”, their spouse, parents, sons
and daughters less than 18 years old with foreign nationality should provide certificates
of relations with the relatives or marriage certificate;
(10) For the above mentioned evidential materials, originals and copies should be provided.
Persons to visit their relatives may apply for a visa of zero, one or two entries within 6
months. Spouse, parents, sons and daughters (less than 18 years old) of Chinese citizens, with foreign nationality (Hong Kong, Macao and Tai Wan residents), or foreigners in China
with “foreigners’ permanent residence permit” may apply for a visa with validity of 6
months or 1 year of zero, once, twice or multiple entries. The application is not limited.
III. Complementary formalities
Passports, accommodation certification, residence permits, etc. should be well kept and not be altered and damaged. Persons who lose their passports must go to the Administration Department of Foreign Affairs of the local Public Security Bureau for complementary formalities at their own expense.
